From early in 2005 ALL new PC systems supplied by us are pre-installed with LINUX Operating Systems and the exciting LINSPIRE LINUX desktop software. 

 

We will continue to install the XP operating system on some new machines, but only when specifically requested to do so by our clients. 

 

Our Microsoft support service will continue indefinitely.

 

ABOUT US

We are a family run business based in West Wales. We operate in roughly a sixty mile radius of Aberaeron in Ceredigion, however we deal with clients on a global scale. The sixty mile radius is purely a practical limitation within an area where we can realistically sustain a truly first class direct contact supply and installation service. This means that we can install and maintain hardware systems and their accompanying software without compromising the after care and support we provide for our customers.

 

 We also supply PC systems on a mail order basis to any part of the UK, however our service terms are slightly different - we do not physically install systems outside our catchment area, and warranty on mail order systems is on a three year "return to workshop" basis. We do of course provide a full telephone and e-mail support service for all our mail order customers - regardless of where they're based.

 

Our Web services are available to customers worldwide. We offer a Global Domain Name registration service, Web-site design, authoring and hosting services and  full on-line technical support.  Our new partnership is with the Linux  Linspire company that's based in San Diego California. We are able to design, construct and host Web-sites for clientele the world over.

OUR BACKGROUND

We have been involved in the electronics industry since 1975, with extensive experience in the telecom, telecommand and telemetry fields.

 

With the advent of the PC age, we have concentrated our expertise on the computing industry, which was a natural progression for us, as the work we have been involved in previously lends itself perfectly to computer technology.

 

Our work also includes IT consultancy and we offer a complete Web service that involves start to finish Web design, authoring and hosting services.

1.    We have VERY low overheads. Unlike many of our competitors we do not have expensive retail outlets, with accompanying high stock levels and running costs. We don't produce masses of glossy leaflets and we don't use expensive advertising. 

We have a computer workshop, offices, and stock space. As our premises are not in heavily rated and overly staffed urban retail complexes, (which rely on passing trade and impulse purchasing), we can pass on our savings to you, our valued customers and clients, because we cut out the middle men.

Retail outlets depend on a high turnover of unit sales and accompanying high stock levels. To compensate for their high running costs their PC systems are often sold in 'brown boxes', and the poor customer is expected to set-up and install his purchases without any technical assistance. Whilst customers can deal with "flat packs" from DIY furniture stores, buying expensive computer equipment in this way is not a good idea - in fact it's unacceptable. Furniture stores providing a non technical product can get away with this kind of depleted service. Customers purchasing technically complicated computer equipment with no installation service and virtually no technical back-up (that large retailers often cut to a bare minimum - through second rate telephone support which is paid for by premium rated telephone lines which can cost customers up to £5.00 per minute) inevitably suffer, we often get asked by our customers to set-up and correct problems that they encounter after inadvertently buying a system in a brown box from a High Street retailer.. We believe our customers deserve better. 

 

2.    Retail outlet stores often employ part time sales staff who are technically inadequate and often have no knowledge or experience of the products they sell - through no fault of their own. Many retailers who sell computer systems in brown boxes employ low paid part time sales staff (often schoolchildren on weekends) to offset their high trading overheads. All of these practices are alien to us.

OUR REASONS FOR FAVOURING   LINUX

The obvious (technical) reasons for favouring the Linux Operating System (OS) are well documented and thoroughly proven within the professional computing fraternity, including this Web-site. We could fill this whole site with nothing but facts about the technical advantages of using Linux based OS distributions over other desktop software. E.g. It's more robust, reliable, powerful, flexible, secure etc etc. Unix/Linux is also the number one choice operating platform for servers the world over. 

However quite apart from the enormous technical advantages it is the ethos of "Open Source" coding (which means it is freely accessible to everyone) that is particularly attractive to us. All changes one makes in Open Source software will benefit each and everyone, all over the world. Without exceptions or constraints.

This is in stark contrast to the rather selfish monopoly mentality of other preparatory OS manufacturers. When you buy a Linux distribution you own it - it's yours to do as you will with it. The inward looking philosophy of other OS manufacturers is to keep the software coding to themselves and then charge a "license fee" for others to use it (usually on one computer only). Many people don't realise that they DON'T OWN a copy of Microsoft Windows, they merely pay for permission to USE it on ONE computer.

This marketing policy also has a retardant effect on the general development of computer software. All improvements and advancements to the MS Windows OS is wholly dependent on development work within the Microsoft corporation, all of the talent and expertise (which could be inputted into future development from leading programmers the world over) is "frozen out" of the equation.

Linux on the other hand wholeheartedly welcome the influence & development input that the very best and most talented programmers can offer. Consequently it is an inevitable fact that in the coming years the Linux ethos of sharing and co-operation for the general good of all will not only shatter the Microsoft (arguably illegal) monopoly but will eventually give MS such a disadvantage, in development terms, that it will be forced to change it's policy or face extinction.

As a company we wholeheartedly embrace the Linux philosophy. Consequently we will, in the near future, be focusing all our attention on the Linspire distribution of the Linux OS. All new systems supplied by us will be pre-installed with the Linspire Desktop Software - that we genuinely believe is already the very best that can be offered to our customers.

Every new PC system that we now distribute are all fitted with the latest AMD  64-bit microprocessors. At the time of writing AMD are the only processor (CPU - chip) manufacturer to supply this latest generation technology.

From our personal experience we believe that AMD are the industry's leaders in the CPU field. click for more infoOver the years their products have consistently performed well in our systems, and have  repeatedly out-performed comparable microprocessors from other leading manufacturers.

With the advent of AMDs reliable 64-bit cutting edge hardware technology the software industry will in the near future start developing 64-bit Operating Systems and accompanying programs. Software companies have been holding back because up until now the required hardware was not available to them. SCC systems are therefore "future proof" in this regard.

Some of the  competition still ship systems with the older architecture, so care should be exercised when High Street shops and large PC retailers have spectacular special offers on their current stocks.

Whilst 64-bit processors will run both 32-bit and 64-bit software. 32-bit processors cannot run 64-bit software. If you're offered a new PC system at a ridiculously low price beware that you are not being palmed off with a large company's "end of line stocks". With the advent of 64-bit Operating System software 32-bit machines will quickly become obsolete.
